Description: TOPIC: Filene’s book is an in depth review of the controversiesin the 1970s- 1980s surrounding the case of Karen Ann Quinlan and her family. The
Quinlan’s tragedy which worked its way through the New Jersey courts in 1975-1976, introduced americans to the right to die issue and helped solidify
public support for the idea that people should have the right to self determine ones death. The book also details other high-profiled cases involving the
“right-to-die” in late-twentieth century America. This includes the landmark U.s Supreme court case of 1990 Cruzan v. Director, Missouri department of
public health that established the right to die as a fundamental right guaranteed within the limits of the US constitution. Drawing on Filene’s treatment of

how they responded to controversy. Finally, the essay should describe the subject in a way that conveys important change over time and/or illustrates
