World War 2: the causes and the war in Western Europe
The objective of the essays is to approach an interstate conflict or other conflict of international
significance that has occurred since 1900 in an interdisciplinary manner.
For this assignment, therefore, each student is to choose an armed conflict with international implications and compose an essay treating
1. the relationship between the various reasons why the conflict in question broke out;
2. why it endured as long as it did; and
3. its overall impact on the international system. The study should focus on both the historical context in which the conflict originated and the competing theoretical frameworks which serve to explain why a conflict occurred in a given period of time and in a given location. In addition, historical explanation of the conflict’s duration, intensity, and impact must be provided.
The topic proposal essay must include:
