World War Z By Max Brooks

World War Z By Max Brooks

Topic:
The characters in World War Z who tell their stories to the narrator, give a history of the war from their perspectives.  Each story has points of similarity regarding how each learned about the zombie threat, learned how the zombies operated, and finally, learned how to combat the zombies.  As each story unfolds, the reader can see that each character moves through Ripley’s Survival Arc.

Question:
Choose two points of the Survival Arc from Ripley, and then illustrate how that arc is functioning in World War Z.  First explain how each point presents an obstacle in the story, and then explain how the characters overcome each obstacle.

First, examine the question to determine exactly what is being asked:
In this instance, the points of the arc (like fear, resilience, paralysis, etc.) come directly from Ripley, and each must be demonstrated through a scene in World War Z.  The first part of the question wants to know how the scene or moment chosen fits on the survival arc – and how it has negative consequences for the characters.
The second part of the question wants to know how the characters overcame their obstacle and how that compared to ideas from Ripley.  One point to keep in mind is that this question is assuming there are comparisons to be made between the two books, but it is not asking for contrasts.

Next, formulate a thesis based on your understanding of the question utilizing the question’s language and inserting your answers, like this:
One point of the survival arc is fear (resilience, paralysis, etc.) and the characters find this an obstacle when (give a particular scene in the story.  Just mention it, keep it brief.)
Another point of the survival arc is fear (resilience, paralysis, etc.) and the characters find this an obstacle when (give a particular scene in the story.  Just mention it, keep it brief.)
The characters overcome (the first obstacle) through (mention what they do or an action they take).
The characters overcome (the second obstacle) through (mention what they do or an action they take).

Next, determine how your body paragraphs will look based on your thesis, like this:
2nd body paragraph:  1st point on the arc with explanation and quote from text. Explain how this point is demonstrated in World War Z and how it directly relates to what Ripley was explaining.  Why or how is it an obstacle for the characters?
3rd body paragraph:  1st point on the arc is overcome by the characters using a quote from the text and explaining it.  Show how this method used by the characters directly relates to an explanation from Ripley.
4th body paragraph:  2nd point on the arc with explanation and quote from text. Explain how this point is demonstrated in World War Z and how it directly relates to what Ripley was explaining.  Why or how is it an obstacle for the characters?
5th body paragraph: 2nd point on the arc is overcome by the characters using a quote from the text and explaining it.  Show how this method used by the characters directly relates to an explanation from Ripley.

Now, add the Intro & Thesis paragraph to the beginning (1st body paragraph), and the Conclusion to the end (6th body paragraph).

the sources are:
1- “World War Z” by Max Brooks which is the main source.
2- “The Unthinkable” by Amanda Ripley.. not the main source.. and you will not use much from it.. and the paper instructions will show you exactly what you will use from it.

1- Use direct quote for each body paragraph with including the page # in the end of the quote.
2- I will attach a files to show you how to write the topic sentences that will be similar to the thesis with changing words or orders.
3- in the sample attachment, look to the way i wrote the topic sentences and how they look similar to the thesis.
4- restate the thesis in the beginning of the conclusion with changing words.

with the intro and the conclusion.. the total is 6 paragraph.
