Order Description

Write an essay that contains a fictional dialogue between two protagonists (in any relationship) who have differing view points on a historical issue, such as collaboration with the Japanese colonial government in Korea, evaluation of Park Chung Hee’s or Kim Il Sung’s accomplishments, or legacies of yangban culture on gender relations in South or North Korea. Students could opt to add a third character commenting on the merits of the other two characters’ arguments. In addition to using course materials, you need to locate and use at least one additional scholarly writing and material from one additional primary source.
For all three essays, you also need to provide a short list of references at the end, but that page and the cover page, if you have one, do not count toward the page requirement. Papers that are too short or too long will be downgraded.
Grading will be based on:

1) the quality of the evidence gathered from the sources;

2) the strength of the analysis;

3) the degree of linkage to class readings, lectures, and discussions; and

4) the quality of the writing.
