The second half you can talk about the current issues in the Muslim world regarding ziyrah. Such as the Sunni and Shia views, the sufi views.. Please use credible academic peer reviewed sources. You can also talk about the views on visiting the dead within different school sects.. How sufi visit graves but certain sunni’s like salafists think its wrong. You can talk about the bombings of shrines by extremists in Islam. Do some critical thinking. If you can find sunni or shia hadith on site visiting, and different interpretation… Also you can talk about peoples first hand experiences, emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual.. hearings, miracles, special waters or wells.. Lots you can talk about.. Just keep it clean and organized and clear thesis. Also you can exceed 8 pages if you need to, that is just the bare minimum. I appreciate your help.

Also, in the proposal i’ll attach the sources i think might be useful to you. Please don’t use more then 1 video source.. everything else should be either primary, or academic by scholars. You yourself can do other research to get ideas and write in your own way. Also please no plagiarism, i will be handing this in to “turnitin.com” .

Research Topic: Ziyarah

This research will take an etic and historical approach to investigate the psychological, physical and spiritual effects of the Ziyarah (pilgrimage) on its pilgrims. The sub questions will investigate: What is Ziyarah and what is its history? Who and why do pilgrims go on Ziyarah? What motivates them? Which are the main Ziyarah locations and when does it take place? Does the pilgrim’s age, gender, status and financial freedom have an impact on one’s experience of Ziyarah? Finally, the research will investigate the different views of Ziyarah within the Muslim community. This paper will examine these questions through the use of primary and secondary sources, scholarly books, articles, journals and documentaries.

This research is significant because millions of Muslims through out the world take part in Ziyarah. Muslims do Ziyarah to prophet Muhammad, his descendants, his companions, all the prophets’ and saints’ tombs, holy locations and much more. Pilgrimage to saints’ tombs is one of the most common devotional acts in Islam. There are huge discussions in the Muslim world regarding Ziyarah and many controversies have risen from it. In recent times tombs have been destroyed and bombed, which has caused uproar in the Muslim world. This goes to show that Ziyarah is a crucial part of the Muslim tradition and will continue to be.

Here are two references that I think will be useful.  Have a look in Tapper’s list of references cited to see if there are further good sources.
