Apple company
Instruction
-
With the assistance of your professor, select a major company for analysis.
- For the selected company< Apple company >, find a news report of a serious ethical breach or
environmental problem
- Do additional research regarding the culture or geography of the
problem by reading encyclopedia articles or other general resources such
as The Canadian Encyclopedia (note that Wikipedia is not generally
regarded as an academically reliable source).
- Define the issue(s)
- Identify the issue(s) in the problem. Who is/was involved? What makes it
significant?
- If human rights are being violated, clearly identify the right and the source
of the right.
- Analyze the case data
- Who are the direct and indirect stakeholders? What are their general
interests? (This includes their morals and values as can be identified. It
does not include their interests in the specific case.)
- What contextual systems can you see at work? What biological,
ecological, economic, or cultural forces are in play? (See week 1 handout
posted to web site.)
- Develop a mind map of the stakeholders, their interests and the interlinkages
of the interests.
- Evaluate the case
- Stakeholder analysis (What would the various stakeholders like to see
happen in this situation?)
- Ethics analysis (What ethics are being used by the various parties? How do
the outcomes reflect the morals of those involved?}
- Develop a set of strategy recommendation regarding what you think should be
done.
- Identify what you think should happen
- Identify the ethical approach and moral basis for your
recommendation(s)
- Identify any significant contextual forces that influenced your
recommendation
Write a 3 pages business analysis of the strategy recommendations. The report must
- a) briefly review the situation & succinctly summarize your recommendation
- b) Include a mind map of significant inter-relationships in the case
(organizational process, stakeholders, and/or systemic forces)
- c) carefully explain the rationale for your specific decision.
This explanation should include enough details to be clear that you
understand the core issues and the methods of ethical analysis. You may
wish to make reference to any of the following:
- The moral sources of your decision
- How the decision relates to the perceived morality of those to
whom the decision would apply
- Long term moral outcomes which might come from the decision
- d) Include 2 additional academically reliable sources that support your
recommendation or supply information useful in analyzing the case study.
