BUS 3103 – IN CLASS RESEARCH EXERCISE FOR MAJOR PROJECT – COUNTRY LEVEL RESEARCH;

RELEVANT TO SECTIONS 7 & 8 of the Project
This exercise is designed to expose you to two very valuables sources of information relevant to your international business project.
The sources that you are being referred to are reliable and valid. Citing these sources as part of your research will add credibility to your research. You should, however, supplement the information that you find out from these sources with your own independent research.
Exercise 1 (Political Economy):
1.    Go to the Website below:

2.    From the dropdown menu on the upper right side of the screen “ Please select a country to view” – choose the country that you intend to base your project on.

3.    Click on the “Government” Tab. From here identify the form of government and the type of legal system in the country.  Also, check if the country is a member of the WTO.

4.    Click on the “Economy” Tab. Read the Economy overview. From this you will be able to understand the main issues surrounding the economy of your chosen country.

Exercise 2:
1.    From the HCT-Dubai Portal access the library catalogue
2.    Click on the “Databases” tab, then choose “Business”
3.    Scroll down to “Euromonitor” the click “Access Now” (You may be asked to accept some terms & conditions)
4.    In the “Find Analysis” box, choose “Countries and Consumers”, then in the “Industry” option choose “Consumer Trends and Lifestyles”, and in the “Geography” option locate the country that you will be basing your project on (You may first need to identify the region and then your chosen country – e.g., Middle East and Africa then UAE)
5.    You will have a screen that has a number of different reports into consumers in your chosen country. Identify reports that you consider to be relevant (in consultation with your teacher), and then identify 5 facts or trends that might be relevant to the expansion of your chosen business into that country.
PLEASE NOTE – Reporting facts from these sources does not, on its own, guarantee a high grade in your assignment. Your analysis of the material that you find is also important.
