So your last individual writing assignment had you tell me about a time when you had to deal with

adversity, how having a diverse or differing background worked for and against you and how you

overcame related problems. Well the individual class presentation is very similar but your purpose is to

tell us a story about yourself that provides us with an insight into:

• Your history
• Your values
• Your character

All of this is done through telling us some part of your entire story. So think about your life and pick a

moment that changed you in terms of how you look at life, deal with people or approach problems.
The point of the exercise is to help you express certain aspects of your character that make you

memorable, approachable and in general a person that people would enjoy getting to know, date or

employ. Be authentic and real

** You will have two (2) minutes so please stay within the time limit **

General guidelines:
• Be careful of using very heavy, tragic moments
• Tell us what you learned and how you are better because of events or lessons so don’t leave us

depressed
• Simple is better but don’t try and rush through it
• You make the judgment regarding what you want to tell so if it’s too personal, then don’t do it
• Be prepared to answer a question from myself or anyone else I bring with me
• Take this seriously as your grade depends on it but this is great practice for interviewing, social

settings and making a wonderful impression
• I’m not looking for great speaking but authentic and real stories that define you; so if your English

isn’t great or your nervous speaking in front of other, this is excellent practice
