Current event article: Freddie Gray

Civil Rights: Current Event
For this assignment, your goal is to find an article from a popular press source, such as a newspaper, magazine, or reputable internet source, which discusses or describes a current event where civil rights are in play. You may select a current court case where civil rights are being argued or decided, an incident where civil rights were violated or defended, or an event that is extending or redefining what civil rights are.

To complete this assignment, you will need to do the following
1. Summarize the article in your own words. You are welcomed and encouraged to use direct quotations as part of your description. Please make sure you provide a solid explanation of the event or situation, the people involved, and outcomes (if applicable).
2. The second part of the assignment is to engage what you have read. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? Treat this section more like a journal entry. Let the thoughts take you where they take you. The only thing that I ask is that you support your ideas. If you think something is messed-up explain why? If you think the situation is skewed in some way, why? Help me to understand your position concerning the issue.

I believe it doesn’t matter what the knife looks like, at the end of the day he didn’t necessarily commit any crime and he died under police custody. I believe it had to do with how they handled him, which was highly unnecessary. The cops that were involved shouldn’t be cops anymore! )
3. Please make sure you include the source in your Works Cited. This should be in MLA style. Some things to remember, you will need more than a web address or link. This should not be a hyperlink (blue, underline). Although authors for websites are difficult to find occasionally, the title of the article or page is always present. If you are unsure how to do this, please feel free to set up a time to go over this formatting.
4. Your paper should be formatted in MLA style. This includes using Times New Roman font, one- inch margins, and double-spacing.
5. Ideally you should have approximately two-pages of content. If you need a bit of extra space, please feel free to do so.
