Coursework – Written research report (4,000 words)

Exploring and demonstrating the knowledge concerning international purchasing and supplier relationships. A case study will be provided by the lecturer.

You are expected to reference all materials used in their reports and include all references in a list. Use the Harvard referencing system.

International Purchasing and Procurement

General guidance:
The structure should include:
1. Introduction
2. Analysis
3. Case study (support your argument) which can be combined with 2.
4. Summary and/or conclusion
5. References (at least 20)
6. Appendix (if applicable)
Select only ONE topic from the list as below.
Hint: for each of these choices it may be easier if you just focus on one industry rather than discussing a topic in general.

Topics:
1. The impact of adopting cutting-edge technology on procurement management. This should include:
a. A review of conventional procurement practices;
b. A review of newly developed technologies that are being implemented in supply chain;
c. How new technology is adopted in procurement, find a real case study to support your argument. This case study can be found from either your text books or the internet or any other reliable sources such as published research papers;
d. Analysis of the impact of new technology on procurement;
e. One or two paragraphs with a brief prediction of the trend of new technology development and likelihood how it may impact on procurement and supply chain management.
f. Summary and/or conclusion.

2. The Influence of Product Life Cycle (PLC) on Purchasing Decision Making.
This should include:
a. An explanation of product life cycle and product life cycle cost analysis.
b. Identify the main factors that influence purchasing decision making.
c. Analysis of how PLC impacts on purchasing decision making.
d. Summary and/or conclusion.

3. How do you see environmental sustainability effect purchasing practices?
This should include:
a. The concept of environmental sustainability and how it can be achieved.
b. What are general purchasing practices?
c. What makes different purchasing practices if environmental sustainability is taken into consideration in purchasing practices?
d. Summary and/or conclusion.

4. In-depth discussion of pricing strategies in associated to cost analysis in purchasing practices.
This should include:
a. A review of pricing strategies.
b. A review of various cost analysis approaches.
c. In-depth analysis of the conditions of when adopting a specific pricing strategy that you select, for instance, in the circumstance “x” the pricing strategy “y” should be chosen, then explain why.
d. Find a real case study to support your argument. The case study can be found from either textbook or internet or any reliable sources.
