Read about the project and be prepared to answer the following 7 questions about GREAT

1. Statement of Condition: What is the condition that the GREAT program was designed to address (objective)?

2. Statement of Problem: What makes this condition a problem that needed GREAT to solve it (subjective)?

3. Needs Assessment: For each of the 4 types of need, how were each assessed before GREAT was developed? If you cannot determine whether the GREAT creators assessed a particular type of need, explain what you would have done to assess that type of need before developing GREAT. That is, if the creators did not assess “relative need,” how WOULD you have assessed this?  Keep in mind, one or more types of need may not apply in this situation.

4. Program Hypothesis: Be able to state one or more hypotheses upon which GREAT was based. Make sure to do this in the form of an “If x, then y” statement.

5. Variables: Be able to identify at least one independent variable and one dependent variable in the program.  Be able to identify at least one intervening variable.  Be able to describe how those variables are (or could be) measured (operationalized).

6. Program Theory: Be able to identify the theoretical foundation upon which GREAT was based. Be eble to explain why this theory was chosen over others. Be able to explain whether this was a good choice. Be able to explain how the theoretical foundation led to the activities (throughputs) in the program.

7. Critique the program. Be able to intelligently critique the program design and to discuss whether the program can be successful. If it can, why can it? If it cannot, why can’t it (is it theory failure or implementation failure)?

2) Download the document for recent evaluation of the GREAT program. You will use this information to answer the following question:

1. GREAT evaluation: Be able to discuss a recent evaluation of the GREAT program. What did they conclude about whether GREAT is accomplishing its objectives? What recommendations do the evaluators make?
