1. Mike, a well-respected and well-liked employee of a paper supply company, is fed up with his co-workers’ disregard for office cleanliness. He decides to incite a critical incident in an attempt to create a cleaner, neater office. In the middle of a company meeting, he quietly and politely asks for his co-workers to clean up after themselves. Is Mike’s critical incident likely to be successful? Why or why not?

2. Amanda has recently been promoted to the head of her department. She knows the climate of the department is one of hostility and negativity. What suggestions would you make to Amanda to help her foster a more positive climate, and why?

3. Briefly explain how the concept of interdependence affects the climate of a group.

Explain how a supervisor could use the “reformed sinner” strategy to resolve a competitive situation with another supervisor over staffing levels for their departments when hiring more staff is not an option. The two supervisors have known each other for years, and their departments normally work very closely with each other.
