Seven arguments

Based on the seven arguments found at http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2013/10/09/are-casinos-too-much-of-a-gamble do you think the benefits of casino-style gambling outweigh the problems associated with it?

In recent years, a number of states have promoted the idea of casino gambling as a mechanism to bring in revenue and jump start economic development (i.e. jobs). Those who oppose these ventures are concerned about the potential negative side effects associated with casino-style gambling. The New York Times recently addressed this issue via its “Room for Debate” forum available at http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2013/10/09/are-casinos-too-much-of-a-gamble. Read the viewpoints of the seven debaters to help you formulate ideas that will lead to a response paper that addresses whether the benefits outweigh the problems associated with casino-style gambling.

As with any essay, you will need to develop your thesis with a body of supporting evidence. However, a persuasive essay of this type must also acknowledge the arguments of the alternate position. Thus, you must show me in this essay that you understand and can articulate your opposition’s arguments while simultaneously making a coherent argument for how these concerns can be handled and why your position is superior.
