strategic managemnet

you have to work on the file which i will upload.
you need to add words in below two:
2.3 Rating Narrative. Discuss each of the total rankings. Why was one higher than the other? How did the relationship between KSFs and the capability influence your answer? (Total 410 words)
3.1 Choose five strategies. Based on your highest rankings by capability(s), list and discuss five strategies to grow the business. How will each strategy improve the company’s competitive advantage? Note: In answering this requirement, see the 5 questions from your lecture notes plus Chapters 7 and 8 of the text. Choose a range of both business level and corporate level strategies. ( 410 )

You need to add around 820 words in each of above two on top of what already written.

You also need to make sure everyhting is as per the isntructions and marking critearia.

The is basically my assignmnt 2.
i will alsio upload my assignmnt 1 because assignment 1 and 2 are interrelated.

you only need to work on assignmnt 2.
i will also upload some of the questionms which students asked to my examiner and what asnwer my examiner provide so that you can make sure its as per examiner comments.

below are the questions which some students asked to my examiner and the answers of my examiner are below as well.
please make sure my paper is done as per examiner comments.

Question 1:
In question 1.4 are you expecting us to write the models and theories with the references which supports answer 1.3 capability narrative. Im confuse here because in you explanation in CS1 feedback recoding you have mentioned examples as shown below

While we narrate the capabilities we have to mention the references to support our answer. That is my understanding on how to proceed with question no 1.3. Please do explain what are you expecting from question 1.4,Do we have to re write the references in that section.

ANSWER:
made it quite clear in my Case Study 1 feedback session that you do not need to have a separate section for ‘Collect evidence’. Instead, you should integrate supporting evidences from the literature into your theoretical discussion and practical analysis in the narrative section so that your research and wide reading into the literature can be clearly demonstrated.

QUESTION 2:
Table 2.1
I have completed this table but just wanted to confirm that we only transpose the capabilities we identified as highest ranking in 1.3 to table 2.1. There are multiple capabilities that would combine/match the KSF, but they weren’t necessarily ranked in the 6 I chose for 1.3.

I just wanted to check because when I look at that table, it seems a bit light on detail as essentially many capabilities would combine to produce KSF… I guess that is more for the discussion/narrative section?

ANSWER:
You can actually list 5 to 10 capabilities in Table 2.1 and then match them with relevant KSFs. As with the resource matching table, you may have multiple capabilities that contribute to a particular KSF. In this case, what you need to do is just to add an additional row in the second capability column so to show clearly you have more than one capabilities relevant to the particular KSF. Then you need to justify this in your discussion in the narrative section.

Question 3:
n the lecture notes etc., when resources are referred to they are categorised as human, tangible and intangible. In the table for this question (1.2) there seem to be other headers such as Process & systems, Organisational Culture. I thought that both of these would have been intangible resources and fall into that category? I think organisational culture is listed in the lecture notes as a form of intangible resource, and my interpretation of process & systems is that they are internally developed intellectual property.

Can you please advise if you want these items to be listed separately, or to form part of intangible resources.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Table to Rate each capability by resource

Another point for clarification, please. I am a bit confused as to how to set up this table, mainly because a combination of resources are required for each capability, or conversely some resources may be required for multiple capabilities.

For example, if our resource list includes technological infrastructure (tangible), technical information & knowledge (intangible), skilled employees (human), each of these resources link to the example capability of technological superiority offered in the template. So, do we write technological superiority 3 times in the capability column next to each instance of the relevant resource, or do we just select the MOST relevant resource and list the capability once?

What if one resource applied to multiple capabilities? for the example, if the resource is motivated employees. That resource could apply to more than one capability, for example the ability to increase sales, or the ability to research and develop innovative products. In this instance, do we write two capabilities next to each resource, or again, do we just select the most relevant?

As we have to rank each capability relative to our competitors I am guessing we should only put a capability in once? That would mean matching the capability with the most relevant required resource?

Also, regarding the -5 to +5 rankings, I am assuming +5 would be the industry leader, and -5 would be no capability, with the others somewhere in the middle, open to our interpretation. I am not sure how to justify this decision with evidence (if it is required). I am assuming the majority of the supporting evidence in this section is mostly about how capabilities create competitive advantage to justify how HP should exploit its capabilities to competitive advantage.

Sorry for the long worded question – just want to make sure I have the interpretation 100% correct.

Re: Table to Rate each capability by resource

I’m trying to finalise this at the moment. I decided to take column 3 from Table 1.1 (HP evidence of capability) and transpose it to column 2 of table 1.2 where we rate each capability against competitors. In terms of what to put in column 1 in table 1.2 (resources required) I’ve just listed the resources required to perform that capability. If there is more than one resource, I’ve listed them all.

ANSWER:

ou are correct on that one capability may relate to more than one resource in Table 1.2. In this case, what you need to do is to list the capability multiple times so to correctly show the capability’s relationship with multiple resources.

Regarding the ranking, what you are expected to do is to compare HPs identified capabilities with those of the strongest competitor in the industry and then make a subjective judgement abour how strong these HP’s capabilities relatively are. As this assignment is just an exercise, you can simply do this based on your subjective judgement.

Regarding your question above, you can either choose to use the provided Case Study 2 template which separates ‘process & systems’ and ‘organisational culture’ from intangible resources, or you can just use the categorises as shown in the lecture notes or pages 168-170 of the prescribed textbook.
