The purpose of this assignment is to examine historical propaganda

The purpose of this assignment is to examine historical propaganda and to apply course material to examine the important genre of war propaganda. A sound and thorough understanding of

course material is necessary to successfully complete the assignment. This assignment focuses on two sets of media, posters, used during WWII. In addition to analyzing the US and the German

posters, understanding the context of the war is useful – review text material and consult other sources for background.

Material for analysis:

Analysis Process:

Study both the US and German collection of posters.

• Select five (5) US posters and five (5) German posters to focus your analysis on – need a rationale to base your selections on that is clearly using course material. Be sure to apply, use, and then

cite course material to support your sample of posters. You may have a different rationale for the each sample, that is, one rationale for the U.S. posters and another for the German posters. Or

you may develop the a single rationale to guide your selection of all posters.

Analyze each of the selected posters using the following questions.
1. What is the purpose of the poster and the intended audience(s)?
2. What propaganda techniques, fallacies, appeals, errors, intent signals used?
3. What are the key words and key visual images used?
4. What are the ideological appeals used in the poster?

Develop and discuss significant similarities and differences between the US posters and the German posters.
